Coming Home

Owen and mom came home today from the hospital. Owen is still either eating, sleeping, or pooping. Mom is now trying to rest back up, since she has had a few long days. Our hospital "encourages" the parents to keep their baby in the room with them all the time. And by "encourage" we mean refusing to take the baby at 2 in the morning in the nursery, even for 30 minutes. Oh well, I guess too many people have abused the system.

The other big highlight of the day was getting a parking ticket for parking in the fire lane in front of the hospital. The fire lane that is beyond the 15 minute parking (which was full with overnight guests), and is no where near the building. If they had to use this lane to fight a fire, they may need to bring a golf cart to escort the firemen to the building. I REALLY want to show up to court next week and dispute my ticket, because the hospital does not provide enough parking to pick up patients. The fine is $15, which is low enough to not waste my time with going to the courthouse, but high enough to get a steady revenue from the ferocious and highly dangerous hospital patients trying to leave.....okay, enough about that...

It is now Day 4 and we should be coming home. Owen and Kristin are getting checked out by the doctors one last time before they let us go home. Hopefully I can add some pictures tomorrow from our house!

Day 3

We have made it to Day 3 and Owen and mom are still doing great. Natalie is having fun with G-Ma and is looking forward to coming to seeing Owen again this afternoon. We should be coming home tomorrow, but may stay until Saturday. Here are a few more pictures:

Owen, Day 2

Mom and Owen are still doing great. We got a few hours of sleep, which we are thankful for. Owen has not fussed much, only when he wants to eat, or needs to burp, or has a dirty diaper. We are waiting for Natalie and G-Ma to come and visit.

Owen James Luttrell is here!

 

Owen was born at 11:01 AM Eastern time this morning. Owen weighs 9 lbs 5 oz and is 21 1/2 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great. Owen has slept most of the day and mom is looking forward to sleeping as well. G-Ma is holding Owen right now, and enjoying her new grandson. Natalie keeps asking to hold Owen and wanting to take him home.

Nut Experiment

Natalie loves nuts. She loves all kinds of nuts. She has never eaten a nut that she didn't like eating. She has tried peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios, cashews, macadamias, sunflower seeds, and maybe a few other ones that I can't think of right now.

We were sitting down to eat dinner one night recently, and Natalie found a bag of nuts in our pantry, and she wanted some. We convinced her that she could have some if she finished her dinner, and she agreed. At the end of dinner, I gave her some of the nuts, and then an idea came to mind. I was going to do an experiment....I guess I will always be an Engineer...

So, I took 5 different kinds of nuts (peanuts, pecans, pistachios, almonds, and cashews) and neatly lined up 5 of each variety in parallel lines. I told Natalie that she could only eat one nut at a time. So she sat there and ate all 25 nuts, but here is the interesting part...

She started with the peanuts, and ate every single one until all the peanuts were gone. Then she moved to the almonds and did the same thing. Then she ate the cashews the same way, then the pistachios, and then the pecans. It took her about 5 minutes to eat all of them, and as she would reach for the next nut, she would look at the other types as if to 'think' about it, but she ultimately went with the variety she was currently chewing on.

I found this very interesting, but I have NO CLUE what this says about her personality. Maybe someone with a psychology degree can help explain it to me.
